Our friendly, Macon, Georgia-based group began in 2006 with a few kindred spirits/avid readers wanting to meet, socialize, and discuss good books. Membership and attendance grows and shrinks according to several factors, but several "non-rules" do exist:
1)There are no rules.
2) Lovely membership is open to all -- both men and women.
3) Lovelies may bring guests.
4) It is not necessary to have finished the chosen book in order to participate...but it would be, well, lovely if you did.
5) Lovelies need to notify the hostess in advance if they won't be attending a particular meeting.
6) Books of any kind in any genre may be chosen -- fiction, juvenile, non-fiction, short story collections, essays, play scripts, etc. (Reference books would be a stretch.)
Meetings are monthly and are scheduled (and the books chosen) a year in advance. On or about the 4th Sunday of each month a volunteer Host/Hostess (who has chosen in advance the book to discuss) invites members to meet in his/her home. The Host/Hostess provides drinks, and members may -- or may not -- bring hors d'oeuvres, baked goods, casseroles, salads or anything they may wish to share. The Host/Hostess leads the book discussion. Meetings begin at 4 p.m.and end whenever...but no one can sleep over, since the Host/Hostess might have to go to work the next day.
